Sorry about the super late post I have been so busy with volleyball and school and just life to have any time to write, so here I am writing... I thought that I could start with telling you about my week then I'll tell you about my life. So, I had a volleyball tournament last weekend at Gilroy High school, I worked on homework, and volleyball.... Oh and I went to my sisters' volleyball game at Gavilan College in Gilroy. I was born in Salinas, California and I have lived in the same house in Prunedale, California; on the exact same property that my mom grew up on, my whole life. I attended Prunedale Pre school next to North County High School in Castroville. After I left preschool I was enrolled at Linscott Charter school for 6 years until I graduated there and went on to go to Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville. I have been attending MVCS for 5 years now and I love it, I am a 2 sport Varsity athlete on the girls' Basketball and volleyball teams, I am active in the theater program at my school and I had a 3.0 GPA last semester. After I graduate one of my dreams is to play for Stanford's Women's basketball program, and graduate there with a major in Psychology and a minor in Criminology so that I can go on to the F.B.I. Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia.that is were Germany comes in... Being a student in a foreign country will help my chances of getting into the F.B.I. Academy, because I will have known a foreign language and culture. Most people are required to take a foreign language in high school which is helpful but you don't know the culture if you just study the language. If I am able to go to Germany I can have a better chance of attending the college I want and the career I would love.
All the best,
Sydney

This blog is so I can keep people up to date on my fundraising so I can go to Germany. The Program I am hoping to go with is Youth For Understanding America, The URL for the Germany program is http://yfuusa.org/countries/germany-14.php Thanks, Syd

Why Germany?
Why Germany, you may ask? I want to go to Germany because I am part German and I would LOVE to know about that part of my heritage. My mom was adopted so I don't really know that much about her side of the family but, my dad was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany on the Military base and went to high school over there too. One of the things I have always wanted to do, besides play for Stanford's Womens' Basketball Program is to be a foreign exchange student in another country, then my dad and I watched the 2006 World Cup, which was in Germany, and I started to do a lot of research and found out that being a foreign exchange student was the best option with my life plan. After doing the research I figured out that my junior year of high school would be the only year I would be old enough and it wouldn't mess up my basketball career, because I'm born in September my parents had the option of waiting a year to put me into school or putting me in with kids a couple months younger than me or putting me in with kids a couple months older, because my whole family is so tall they figured that I should just go into class with kids that are just a little older because I would most likely be growing the same time as them. I am now almost 6'3" as a sophomore in high school, and the tallest girl in school for almost two years now since I out grew my sister who is almost 6'1", I have clearly grown with the kids in my class. I have heard from many people who have been a foreign exchange student that the experience has changed their lives in so many ways and that they are still in contact with their host families and friends that they made in the countries that they lived in. One of my mom's friends from high school was a foreign exchange student from Sweden, and she came with her daughters to the USA this summer and I got to meet them and I talked to her about being a foreign exchange student and she said that she loved it and that it was a once in a life time experience that she is so happy she did.
